In 1911, Carl A. Grundén began making durable waterproof clothing from oil-treated cotton to protect fishermen from the harsh conditions of the North Sea.

After a pause during World War I, Carl founded Grundéns Regnkläder AB in 1926, producing small-batch, handmade rain gear for fishermen along Sweden’s western coast.

In the 1930s, Grundéns introduced rubberized textiles that offered lighter weight, greater flexibility, improved abrasion resistance, and faster production than traditional oilskins.

In 1954, Grundéns introduced the PVC-coated Herkules overall, creating a highly durable, easy-to-clean garment that became an enduring symbol of protection on the water.

As Grundéns expanded into Norway, Iceland, Canada, and the United States, its gear became trusted by commercial fishermen working in some of the world’s harshest waters.

In 1972, Grundéns moved production to its own factory in Lisbon, Portugal, and later became the official yachting equipment sponsor of the 1977 America’s Cup.

In 1991, Mike and Dave Jackson established Grundéns US to lead North American distribution, followed by the launch of Grundéns South America in Chile in 1994.

In 2015, Grundéns launched its first collection dedicated to sport fishing, combining its heritage of rugged protection with lighter materials and advanced technical features.

In 2017, Grundéns expanded into technical footwear with the launch of the 15-inch Deck Boss boot, delivering durable, comfortable protection for long days on the water.

In 2019, Grundéns began collaborating with GORE-TEX® to develop waterproof, breathable fishing gear that brought advanced technical performance to its heritage of on-water protection.

In 2021, Grundéns became the official footwear sponsor of U.S. bass fishing tournaments and the MLF Pro Tour, further expanding its presence in professional sport fishing.

In 2023, Grundéns entered wading with its first GORE-TEX® Boundary Wader collection and followed with the Bankside Wading Boot, combining technical materials, Vibram® traction, and proven durability.

In 2026, Grundéns celebrates a century of innovation from oil-treated cotton to GORE-TEX®, while continuing its mission to keep people dry, protected, and working on the water.
